Week 4 – No-Comply – Auditions, production meeting, revisions, crew call, etc.

Group Summary:

Week four focused on casting. We are bringing in all of the actors for auditions this Sunday. An initial script breakdown is uploaded to the drive, but it is really preliminary since the script is not finalized yet. Ciana thought of a really great movie to use as a comparative film! Mommy which is Indi, is about a relationship between parent and child, frustrated youth, and has a skateboarding motif. Colton looked at lighting tutorials to get inspiration for our film.

Week 4 — Maia Goel — Script Revisions (again…), Auditions, New Crew, Meetings, etc.

I got great notes from class on the script so I was working on revising the script. I met with Joel this week and he gave me notes on the script as well. I wanted to get his advice on the problems I was having with it. He gave me great advice and I am just struggling with the idea of making this completely narrative which was his suggestion if it’s not working the other way. He told me to meet with him again in a week when I have revised again. I also met with Kristle Backe to see if she would be interested in DPing the project. She seemed interested and we met mostly about the script. She gave me her advice and we communicated well which was a good sign for our working relationship. I think that we will work well together and she said we’d work out everything about the equipment. I am preparing for auditions this Sunday. We have received a lot of interest for most of the roles so that’s exciting. We also reached out to people that had interest in PAing but some of them won’t be available during those dates so we will be looking for PAs and ACs.

Week 4 — Colton Book —

This week I focused mainly on gaffing, by looking at lighting tutorials during my spare time. In one of the videos i watched, i saw the directory of photography light his scene starting with his key light and then filling in everything else as needed. He talked about knowing what your lights do, along with how to use them to match the tone of the story.

Week 4 — Mahina Smith — Auditions, Script Breakdown

This week I corresponded with all of the actors and parents of actors about coming in for an audition this Sunday. I did a preliminary script breakdown that is now posted on the drive. I was a little overwhelmed with all of the props, set design, and stunt that I saw in the script. I will talk with Maia more this Thursday. I was particularly concerned about the three cop cars mentioned. I also updated Keola about what was happening. I told him about the shoot dates, permitting, and script breakdown. We also took this time to get our blog together.

Week 4 — Ciana Bird –Listing

This week I went through the script and listed the props that were explicitly typed out in the script. After doing that I went through and began listing what “everyday home items” we would most likely be within the scene just to get an idea what may be needed in the future. While it’s not all there yet, it’s a start to organizing what is needed and how we’re going to execute. Along with trying to see what designs and styles might fit, I started making a moodboard on Pinterest of stills from very stylistic films to help create a tone.

Week 4  – Zachary Smith – Street Permit

This week, I finally drafted a sample permit for our street location. I did one for ‘Walls’ last semester, and it is actually very simple. It is from City & County, and though the application needs a specific street listed, the actually permit allows for shooting on almost any public street! It is also free. I’m looking to submit it week 6.
