Week five was focused on auditions. We held auditions 9am-2pm this past Sunday and saw 14 people. Overall, we think we probably found Young Cleveland, Present Cleveland, and Beth somewhere in the mix. The father might have been a bust. Between SAG and some iffy auditions we still have to think about our final actor. We might do a second casting call or callbacks. Maia has been hard at work for script revisions this week. She has been thinking about lessening the time since the sister disappeared. Ciana has been reviewing the script breakdown and creating ideas for production design.
Week 5-Maia Goel-script revisions and auditions
I continued revising the script and made good progress. I don’t think this will be the last time though. I had a conversation with Chloe about changing DPs which was difficult but she took it okay and understood that it has been a challenge to work together this semester. We auditioned everyone and still need to look for a father but some of the girls that would play Cleveland were really good so it will be difficult to choose between a few. Overall it was a very productive week and we used Thursday to meet as a group for the whole class time.
Week 5- Colton Book- Lighting Concepts and Montage Editing
This week I continued to look at lighting workshops. All the workshops I’ve looked at have been doing basically the same thing by turning off all of the lights and starting with your key light and filling in from there. I plan on doing this in our tech day next week. I also went over how to make a montage flow much better with the lead editor at Montaj9. She talked about the in and out points of movement that should be consistent throughout a montage. She also talked to me about color pallet throughout a montage, along with extremely fast edits and where you want the viewer to focus their eye.
Week 5 — Mahina Smith — Auditions, Child Labor Laws
This weekend was completely focused on the auditions. It was my first time auditioning anyone, much less children. Luckily, Maia, Zach, and Keola, took lead and I was able to watch and get an understanding for how it is done. For the most part, children were children, and were cute, but occasionally had a hard time with direction. There were some really good ones though and some good sister pairs. In addition for looking at good acting, we also need to match for ethnicity, which makes things a bit tricky. I also started to review child labor laws to ensure we know how to schedule around the age of each child. The older the better. Unfortunately, we did not find the father we were looking for yet. We will keep looking though. Overall, it wasn’t too bad and time went by fast 🙂
Week 5 – Zachary Smith – Auditions, Recruiting Crew, Studiobinder
The main focus this week was auditions. I could not make it until the last hour and a half due to another film obligation, and thus sat through only two auditions. I worked camera. The first was a girl I had actually previously worked with (on ‘Walls’) and we shared a warm hello. Turns out ‘Walls’ was her first acting experience! Making ‘No Comply’ her second. Apart from auditions, I continued to fill in crew positions. Christian Lee offered his help as second AD, and I spoke to Kelci Murakami, who is interested in being art director. Finally, I looked into the application Studiobinder, which is being used on the set I’m working on this week. It’s very helpful, and may use it for this project.
Week 5 — Ciana Bird — Relearning
This week was a little bit slower for myself as there wasn’t anything really in the moment to do. So I took this week to do things in order to prepare for what’s to come. While I do know how to edit and I know both programs (Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere), I am more familiar with Final Cut Pro. So I took this week to relearn and re-familiarize myself with Premiere and I feel set on it. I’ll make sure I keep up with it until it’s time for editing to begin.
