Mahina-This week I put the credits together and searched through the paperwork to make sure I had the paperwork for everyone who is in the credits. Maia and I also went through and tried to ensure we thanked everyone who helped with permitting, SAG, and professors that helped with script and otherwise. I realized that I should probably have some other count of people on-set then paperwork and call sheets because there was one person on the call sheet who did not actually show up and I thought I was missing her paperwork. Then I was using the paperwork to spell their names but often times the handwriting was hard to read so I ended up double checking on other platforms. Nothing disastrous, but definitely a learning experience. Life has been busy between this film, Malia’s film, and my own doc on Hawai’i Sign Language that I’ve been editing. It is a heck of a time to have so little motivation I can barely move to a desk for zoom chats. sigh.
Maia-Editing
Ciana and Colton are doing a great job at hanging in there and I think they’ve had a great workflow. We are discussing what is possible for next week’s deadline and what we will have to save for after. But I really like the direction it’s headed in and it helped to get a bunch of eyes on it this week to see how the audience was reacting to things we were hesitant on.
Colton – Rough Cut – Audio
This week I was working on fixing some small issues with our edit. I moved the grass scene to after Cleveland falls, I fixed small things regarding timing and continuity, and I also did a rough opening and closing credits. After I was finished, I started to play around with music and it started to really feel like a film. It wasn’t music I think we should use in the final edit but it helped me to see it really coming together and now that the audio and sound effects sound decent, I think we can get a better gage of where we are at.
In the attached photo you can see that I went through the dialogue and found the best sounding tracks. Bellow that are the roomtones and sound effects.
Ciana – 3rd Cut
This weeks edit was a little bit stressful to do. After seeing it done twice now, I fell out of motivation for the first day that I had it again, but luckily after watching some movies I got some ideas to try and make this film a little more experimental. I still don’t like where the pacing’s at, but eventually we’ll figure it out. I think what’s difficult is trying to find the balance between that and having it still make sense to the audience. We all came together again to see what might not be working and we definitely needed a fresh set of eyes on it. I think we were all a little stuck, but with us getting a picture lock veryy soon I think we’ll move very smoothly into the final cut. I’m horrible at fixing audio so thank you Colton!!
